A study conducted at the Department of Neurology, Children’s Hospital and the Institute of Child Health in Multan, Pakistan, compared the efficacy and safety of corticosteroids alone and in combination with vigabatrin for treating infantile spasm. The randomized controlled trial included 320 children aged 1-24 months. The combination therapy group had a significantly higher response rate (73.8%) compared to the monotherapy group (30.0%). Adverse effects were primarily increased appetite/weight, gastrointestinal symptoms, and sleep disturbance. The study supports the use of combination therapy over monotherapy for infantile spasm.
