Serial shoplifter jailed and banned from Barry streets
Matthew Moore was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison after admitting to stealing £22.40 worth of household goods from a One Stop shop in Barry. The court heard he was part of a group targeting local stores. A three-year criminal behaviour order bans him from several Barry streets and shops, as well as from entering shops across Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan with five named individuals. South Wales Police urged the public to report breaches and related incidents.

Teenagers Trafficked to Thailand from Wales into Drug Ring
Three Cardiff men are accused of trafficking two 17-year-old boys to Thailand to act as drug couriers in an alleged international criminal network. The teenagers, both aged 17, were arrested in Thailand with 64kg of cannabis concealed in their suitcases and remain in custody there with support from their families and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The accused men were charged at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court and remanded in custody pending a Cardiff Crown Court appearance on September 4. A fourth Cardiff woman was charged in connection with the alleged operation and granted conditional bail, while a separate man from West Yorkshire was arrested and placed on police bail.

Barry Motor Trade Company Enters Voluntary Liquidation
Easy Fleet Limited, an automotive company based in Barry, has entered a Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation following resolutions passed at a general meeting in Cardiff on June 16, 2026. Katrina Orum and Huw Powell of BTG Begbies Traynor were appointed joint liquidators. Public notices do not explain the company’s financial difficulties, the number of employees affected, its trading status, or the impact on customers and suppliers.

Estyn Praises Innovation at Barry Island Primary School
Barry Island Primary School has been praised by Estyn for its inclusive ethos, innovative curriculum, strong leadership, support for pupils with additional learning needs, digital skills development and restorative approach to conflict. Inspectors found that most pupils make good progress and that safeguarding, financial management and site management are effective. The school was asked to provide more play-based learning for younger pupils and more opportunities for older pupils to practise conversational Welsh. With 235 pupils enrolled, the school will prepare an action plan to address these recommendations.

Thunderstorms could be set to hit Vale after 33C heatwave
The Vale of Glamorgan is expected to experience hot, mostly dry conditions early in the week, with temperatures reaching about 33°C in Cardiff and potentially 36–37°C in some coastal areas on Wednesday. Rain and a risk of thunderstorms are forecast from Thursday evening into Friday, although much of the weekend should remain dry and settled. Coastal areas including Whitmore Bay and Penarth may be slightly cooler because of sea breezes, and residents are advised to check updated Met Office forecasts as conditions may change.

Customers particularly praised its food, welcoming service, value, harbour views, play area, family-friendly facilities and dog-friendly approach. Man suffers significant head injury in Barry assault
A 43-year-old man suffered a significant head injury after an assault on Skomer Road in Barry late on July 17 and was taken to hospital. A 30-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and remains in custody. South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward.

All we know after serious M4 crash near J34 for Miskin

Vale MS demands new Cardiff hospital be built urgently
