Footage shows moment police arrest wanted man while he slept on roof
Greater Manchester Police arrested a 37-year-old wanted man after a two-day stand-off at a property on Reservoir Street in Salford. Officers from the Tactical Aid Unit found him sleeping on a roof, pulled him down a ladder and arrested him. He is suspected of public nuisance, criminal damage, public order offences, burglary and assaulting two police officers, who suffered minor injuries. The man remains in custody, while police said some properties were damaged and affected residents would receive support.

Police inspector cleared of sexually assaulting colleagues on night out
Metropolitan Police inspector Dave Newman, 39, was unanimously acquitted at Southwark Crown Court of sexually assaulting three female colleagues during a 2023 night out in Soho. The judge expressed serious concerns about delays in obtaining witness statements and criticised the circumstances of the police drinks event, including the distribution of shots.

Gary Glitter appears in court charged with 1970s child sex offences
Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, appeared by videolink at Westminster Magistrates’ Court charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault allegedly committed between 1978 and 1981, when the complainant was aged eight to 11. Prosecutors allege the offences took place at his home in Kensington and Chelsea. Glitter was remanded into custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on September 2.

Thousands march in Pride parade as activists warn LGBT+ rights under threat
