A burst water main between Hammond Road and Hayes Way in Patchway caused severe flooding and disrupted water supplies across parts of Bristol. The incident initially affected 8,813 customers, with 1,442 still affected later in the day as Bristol Water moved supplies through its network and continued repairs. The company said supplies were being restored, advised customers to flush discoloured water from cold taps, and planned bottled-water deliveries for vulnerable residents. Avon Fire and Rescue Service helped isolate electrical supplies and direct floodwater into drains; no casualties were reported, and road diversions were later lifted.

The 2026 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will run from Friday 7 August to Sunday 9 August at Ashton Court Estate, with six weather-dependent mass ascents, two evening night glow displays and free admission. Visitors will pay for parking or may purchase hospitality packages. The programme also includes the In the Clouds immersive ballooning experience, live acoustic music, children’s entertainment, a funfair and food and drink. Bristol City Council has agreed to let the festival continue using Ashton Court for the foreseeable future, while other locations around Bristol will offer viewpoints of the ascents.
