She traveled 17,000 kilometers to find her missing friend
Belgian traveler Céline Cremer disappeared in Tasmania in June 2023 after setting out for a hike near Philosopher’s Falls. Her childhood friend Justine Ropet traveled more than 17,000 kilometers to help search for her, later living in Tasmania and coordinating volunteers after official searches were suspended. A private investigation eventually found Cremer’s phone, and further searches uncovered remains, teeth and car keys. Tasmanian police believe she became lost in dense rainforest after leaving the marked trail and do not suspect foul play. Her remains were formally identified and buried in Belgium in May, giving her family and friends some closure.
