The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League is investigating allegations that Saltburn player Brian Devine used finger-clicking to influence caught-behind dismissals, an incident dubbed the “Clicky Ponting” scandal after footage went viral internationally. Saltburn has suspended Devine and conceded a subsequent cup match, while the league is following England and Wales Cricket Board guidance to ensure a fair and comprehensive process. Additional allegations and footage have emerged, including claims involving a Middlesbrough second XI match and Devine’s former club Pudsey St Lawrence. The league has stressed natural justice and expressed concern for the welfare of Saltburn members; the Bradford League said it would not retrospectively investigate the older footage.
