Pneumococcal vaccines, flaxseed, turmeric, medications linked to less severe COVID-19

24 Aug 2021  |  Medical Laboratory Observer
Researchers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center analyzed electronic health records of 9,748 COVID-19 patients to identify correlations between drug intake and COVID-19 severity. The study found that pneumococcal vaccines, a tetanus-diphtheria vaccine, ibuprofen, and various dietary supplements like flaxseed and turmeric extracts were associated with reduced severity of COVID-19. The findings suggest that these vaccines and supplements may help prevent severe COVID-19 outcomes by reducing co-infections or secondary bacterial infections.

The families who squatted in a building in Jerusalem: Intended for public housing

11 Sep 2011  |  ynet.co.il
Around 30 families lacking housing in Jerusalem, who squatted in an abandoned building in the Kiryat Yuval neighborhood owned by the Hebrew University, have called on Housing Minister Ariel Atias and several Knesset members to convert the building into affordable public housing. The families, assisted by students and social activists, propose to transform the building and another empty one nearby into a new model of public housing, providing apartments for the housing insecure in mixed projects alongside other populations such as students. The buildings, formerly student dormitories, have been unoccupied for about six years. Meanwhile, the families expect to be evicted after the university filed a police complaint.
