Shahida is an Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker and journalist originally from Uzbekistan, now based in the UK, where she has lived for nearly 30 years. Brief Bio Shahida Tulaganova began her journalism career with BBC News in 1996, where she honed her skills in reporting and storytelling. She later gained extensive experience in documentary filmmaking while working with BBC Current Affairs Documentaries, laying the foundation for her deep commitment to investigative journalism and impactful storytelling. As a seasoned war reporter, Shahida has covered some of the most intense and complex conflicts of our time, including those in Syria, Afghanistan, Eastern Ukraine, the Palestinian Territories, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. In recent years, her focus has been on the devastating impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine, particularly on children. She produced and directed Children of Ukraine (ITV, 2022) and Ukraine’s Stolen Children (ITV, 2023), documentaries that offer a harrowing yet essential look into the struggles faced by young victims of war. Beyond conflict reporting, Shahida has always been deeply committed to human rights storytelling. Her first independent feature documentary, EXILED, explored the genocide of Rohingya Muslims, shedding light on one of the most tragic humanitarian crises of our time.
