Soo-hyeon Kim is a freelance visual journalist based in Seoul, South Korea, currently contributing to Reuters. She specializes in both photography and videography, working across still and moving images to deliver compelling visual narratives for digital and traditional platforms. Her work spans a wide range of subjects, from sports and K-culture to breaking news, political turmoil, and far-right protests in South Korea. Notable coverage includes the Jeju Air crash at Muan Airport, the country’s declaration of martial law, and the 2025 presidential election. She studied photography at Chung-Ang University in Seoul and was selected for the prestigious 2025 Eddie Adams Workshop in recognition of her storytelling. She was also part of the Reuters Seoul team that received Breaking News of the Year in 2024 for their martial law coverage. In 2024, she completed Reuters' Hostile Environment Training. Her visual storytelling is grounded in empathy, exploring resistance, generational divides, and the human cost of conflict with depth and clarity. Her work has been widely published via Reuters in major global media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, TIME, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera English, NPR, NBC, CBS, ABC News, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, and Die Zeit.
