Clearaway Recycling fined £400,000 after woman crushed
Clearaway Recycling Limited was fined £400,000 and ordered to pay £10,259 in costs after a 22-year-old worker was trapped between a mobile shredder and a gate post at the company’s Basildon site on October 28, 2023. Appeal submitted by developer for 420 homes in Billericay
Gleeson Land has appealed to the Planning Inspectorate after Basildon Council failed to determine an application for up to 420 homes west of Laindon Road in Billericay within the required timeframe. Trust Links Given £500,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund

Men United in Song raise over £31,000 for Prostate Cancer UK
The Men United in Song project in South Essex raised £31,628 for Prostate Cancer UK, more than triple its original £10,000 target. Organized by the Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir, the initiative brought together 60 men, many with little or no previous choir experience, for ten weeks of rehearsals before a sold-out concert attended by more than 450 people. The event also increased awareness of prostate cancer, and more than half of the participants chose to join the choir permanently.

Beat the Street hailed a success after challenge in Basildon
More than 9,000 people took part in Basildon's six-week Beat the Street challenge, collectively covering 35,923 miles—well beyond the distance around the globe. More than 3,800 vehicles seized across Essex so far this year
