Households Could Face Fines for Breaking Four Bin Collection Rules
Households may face fixed penalties of up to £80 when waste collection rule violations obstruct public access, restrict pavements, attract vermin or create unsightly conditions. Minor mistakes, such as using the wrong bin or leaving bins out briefly, should not result in fines. Councils must generally issue warnings and a notice of intent before sending a final penalty notice, while residents are advised to follow local recycling guidance and avoid items such as receipts, wrapping paper, disposable coffee cups, crisp packets and toothpaste tubes.
