Bessent steps in on bonds — yields fall, gold and bitcoin rally
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that liquidity-support buybacks of 10- to 30-year Treasury debt would at least double to $4 billion per operation, helping push the 30-year yield lower and weakening the dollar. Gold advanced toward $4,500–$4,600, while bitcoin rallied to about $79,000; U.S. equities recovered on Friday but still had a volatile week. The bond market remains sensitive to inflation and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. Upcoming catalysts include Nvidia earnings, U.S. PCE data and Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech. The analysis expects possible further gains in gold and natural gas but warns that higher long-term yields or disappointing policy signals could reverse the rally.
