UK heatwave warning as 'extreme' wildfire risk confirmed
Record-breaking heat across the UK has triggered extreme wildfire warnings as temperatures surpassed 35C for the sixth time this year. Emergency services urged the public to avoid activities that could spark fires and to reserve emergency calls for genuine incidents. Heat health alerts remain in place across much of England, with forecasts showing continued temperatures above 30C and a possible rise in thunderstorms next week. Fire crews in Derbyshire and London responded to multiple blazes, while the London Fire Brigade warned that conditions are expected to elevate the wildfire risk to extreme due to persistent heat, dryness and wind.
