The Creepy City Nightlife Videos Watched by Millions Online That Won't Go Away
Voyeuristic videos of young women on nights out in Manchester continue circulating across Facebook and other platforms, supported by large accounts and groups with hundreds of thousands or millions of followers. The footage has prompted complaints, a police investigation and an arrest, but the criminal case ended because of limitations in current legislation. The trend also includes apparently AI-generated images, recycled clips from other cities and misogynistic or sexualized commentary. Experts warn that platform algorithms can normalize harassment and create real-world risks. Meta did not respond to requests for comment, while TikTok and YouTube have removed some accounts. Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council are pursuing civil and preventative measures, including a nightlife safety charter, the WalkSafe+ app and anti-predatory-behavior campaigns.
