An HMRC error affecting self‑employed people between 2015 and 2024 may have created incorrect gaps in National Insurance records, putting State Pension entitlements at risk for up to 800,000 individuals. Money Saving Expert warns that those who failed to submit a specific CWF1 form alongside self‑assessment may have missed Class 2 NI contributions, potentially costing thousands in pension income. Guidance is provided on checking NI records, identifying contribution gaps, buying missing years, and reviewing eligibility for various NI credits, particularly for carers, parents, and older women who may have been underpaid in the past.

DWP confirms state pension age change for anyone born after April 6, 1977
The UK Government is implementing a phased increase in the State Pension age from 66 to 67 between 2026 and 2028, with a further rise to 68 scheduled between 2044 and 2046 for those born after April 6, 1977. An early review may accelerate the shift to age 68 amid concerns over insufficient private retirement savings. The Government Actuary is assessing whether current pension age rules align with life expectancy and expected retirement duration. While the timetable to increase the age from 66 to 67 remains unchanged, the schedule for the rise from 67 to 68 could be revised depending on the review’s findings.
