I've been turned away from shops and even sacked because I'm in a wheelchair
Samantha Maxwell, a 33-year-old Wrexham author with cerebral palsy, says she was turned away by shops, rejected by employers and once dismissed from a job because she used a wheelchair. Writing helped her recover from severe depression and develop her autobiography, CP Isn't Me, which challenges stereotypes and emphasizes her identity beyond her disability. Pendine Arts and Community Trust, backed by Pendine Park, donated £325 toward an accessible audiobook edition; Maxwell has raised more than £1,500 of the £2,000 required. She has since published two further books, become a disability advocate and Wrecsam2029 ambassador, and worked with Accessible Wrexham to promote accessibility and inclusion.
