Sarah Baulch and John Dalton returned to Tan Hill Inn in the Yorkshire Dales to celebrate 30 years since their wedding there in 1996. The couple, who travelled with their children, recalled combining their wedding with a Pennine Way walk and hosting about 60 guests at the pub. Ill health prevented them from repeating the walk, but they still revisited the venue, praising its upgraded facilities while noting that its character and welcoming atmosphere remain unchanged. Owner Andrew Hields said the pub is attracting more weddings and highlighted its broader role as a place for dining, live music and overnight stays.

A public fundraising appeal for the families of Cleveland Police officers PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough has raised more than £875,000 from over 30,000 donations, with a target of £1.2 million. The officers were killed when a Volkswagen Passat travelling against traffic collided with their patrol car on the A66 near South Bank, Middlesbrough, on August 22, 2026; five people in the Passat also died. The Cleveland Police Federation is distributing the funds equally between the officers’ families and supporting colleagues across the force. The IOPC is investigating the collision, while Cleveland Police has made multiple arrests linked to alleged criminal activity preceding the crash, including suspected firearm possession, organized crime involvement, assisting an offender and threats to kill.

Matthew Flint, a popular Guisborough Rugby Club player and captain, has died aged 43 after being diagnosed with blood cancer in November 2025. His wife Nichola and daughters Olivia and Lottie paid tribute to his devotion, strength and kindness, while the club described his 25 years of service and more than 300 senior appearances as a defining contribution to its history. The family thanked the haematology department at James Cook University Hospital and Teesside Hospice. Flint's sister Becky will run the Great North Run to raise money for Blood Cancer UK in his memory.
