Warning as people ignore closure of unsafe steps to popular Flamborough beach
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has warned people not to climb over barriers to use the severely deteriorated metal steps leading to Selwicks Bay near Flamborough Lighthouse. The steps were closed in June after structural damage from heavy use and corrosion was identified, temporarily making the beach inaccessible by land. Engineers and contractors are assessing a remedy, but the structure may need to be rebuilt and is expected to remain closed for some time.

Brits warned as major airports hit by flight cancellations amid strong winds
Strong winds caused widespread flight delays and cancellations at Sydney and Melbourne airports in Australia. Sydney Airport introduced a ground delay programme until 2pm, with about 138 of 786 scheduled departures expected to be delayed by roughly 45 minutes. Melbourne Airport expected around 198 delays among 618 scheduled departures, while Qantas cancelled two Melbourne flights and one from Brisbane and rebooked passengers. The disruption followed a recent near-miss between two passenger jets and earlier delays linked to staffing problems in Sydney’s control tower.
