Dad with terminal cancer creates a children’s book with his daughter to explain illness
Chris Capstick, a 41-year-old father from the Wirral with terminal stage-four melanoma, was given about 10 months to live after cancer returned and spread to his body and brain. To help his three daughters understand his illness, his six-year-old daughter Isabella and wife Lauren created the children’s book Daddy’s Little Monsters, which explains hospital visits, fatigue and illness without using the word cancer. The book has sold nearly 300 copies, earned strong reviews and been donated to cancer-support charities, while the family is seeking funding to distribute more copies. The project has helped Isabella process her father’s diagnosis and given Chris a lasting legacy, with support from Maggie’s and recognition from Girlguiding.
