Five-day-old Arabella Mayer stopped breathing after her exhausted mother, Lydia Pass, apparently fell asleep while holding her after tending to her during the night. Although CPR restored Arabella's pulse, she had been without effective oxygen for too long and died after life support was withdrawn on June 20, 2025. Medical experts said the death may have involved asphyxiation linked to an undiagnosed genetic condition or unsafe sleeping position. The coroner recorded a delayed sudden death in the context of unsafe sleeping, while Staffordshire Police found no evidence of neglect or wrongdoing and described the child as well cared for by her family.

A two‑year‑old boy suffered severe facial injuries after being attacked by a bulldog‑type dog in the beer garden of The Wulstan pub in Wolstanton, prompting an emergency response and a police investigation.
