The theft of approximately 0.6 miles (1km) of telecommunications cable in the Bishop Norton area of Lincolnshire caused widespread disruption to communication networks. Lincolnshire Police believe the cable was removed through manhole covers late on Friday or early Saturday and may have required a large vehicle or vehicles. Officers are appealing for witnesses and information about suspicious activity or moved manhole covers.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park has applied for permission to build a 30‑acre large herbivore habitat featuring accommodation, visitor walkways and pools, replacing an existing camel enclosure. The park projects the development could increase annual visitor numbers by 20% once opened in 2027, though current planning agreements cap attendance at 1.5 million. Doncaster Council has yet to schedule a decision, and the park has not disclosed which species would occupy the new enclosure.

Overnight repair work is scheduled to resolve repeated closure problems on Whitby’s swing bridge, caused by deck ends failing to shut properly and exacerbated by recent hot weather. North Yorkshire Council engineers will remove corrosion, assess heat effects and later install light‑coloured high‑friction surfacing to limit heat build‑up. The bridge will close from 18:00 to 02:00 with shuttle buses provided, and authorities urged the public to follow closure signs after recent incidents of pedestrians ignoring warnings.
