Barrow indie band The Silver Bars will open the main stage at Kendal Calling 2026 on July 31. The five-piece initially thought the offer was a scam but now sees the performance as a major milestone after years of work and previous appearances at the festival. The band is also embarking on its own Hit the North headline tour, with dates in Edinburgh, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and Ulverston.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service warned that recent record-breaking heat has left the county vulnerable to wildfires, following several significant blazes across the UK. Group manager Martin Slack urged the public to avoid campfires and barbecues outside designated areas, dispose of smoking materials safely, and park responsibly to prevent accidental ignition. He emphasized the need to report any potential wildfire immediately to improve emergency response.
