Five Barry-area residents recently faced Cardiff Magistrates’ Court over violence, weapon possession and driving offences. Samantha Baker received an 18-month community order and drug rehabilitation requirements after admitting possession of a police baton. Andrew Smith was fined and made subject to a two-year restraining order after being found guilty of assault and threatening or abusive language. Three defendants were penalized for motoring offences, including mobile-phone use while driving, driving without a valid licence and driving without due care and attention, resulting in fines, costs, surcharges and penalty points.

Thousands of visitors attended the opening weekend of the National Eisteddfod at the Maes in Llantwit, including people from London and the United States and fans of Super Furry Animals. Fourteen choirs comprising 800 singers competed, with Côr Bryn Owain from Cowbridge winning, Cor Godre'r Garth from Cardiff placing second, and Côr y Gleision from Cardiff taking third.

A 21-year-old Barry motorist received a 12‑month driving ban and a one‑year community order after admitting to dangerous driving on the A48 near Bridgend. The sentence includes a three‑month nighttime curfew, rehabilitation activity days, and an extended re-test requirement. Court costs and a surcharge were imposed, with prosecution and defence represented by Fran Parry and Ross Williams respectively.
