Chatham-Kent’s Pathways on Park transitional cabin project received the Peter J. Marshall Municipal Innovation Award from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. The project repurposes municipal property into 50 cabins with shared amenities, round-the-clock case management and access to housing, life-skills, mental health and addiction supports. It has assisted 126 people experiencing homelessness, with 28 moving into long-term housing and 93% remaining housed. Municipal officials and AMO praised the project’s partnerships, efficient use of public assets and positive housing outcomes.

Milo Harbour Inc. and the Port of Cleveland have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a truck ferry between Wheatley, Ontario, and Cleveland, Ohio, potentially launching in early 2028. The proposed service could carry up to 300 truckloads daily, with two- to three-hour one-way crossings, reducing reliance on the congested Windsor-Detroit gateway and improving access to highway, rail and European container connections. The project still requires infrastructure, regulatory, customs and border-processing investments. Chatham-Kent officials support its potential economic benefits while seeking more information about effects on local infrastructure and agriculture.
