Corralling T Cells Inside Tumors Boosts Efficacy of Immunotherapy in Melanoma

01 Oct 2023  |  physicianfocus.nyulangone.org
Researchers from NYU Langone Health and Perlmutter Cancer Center have discovered that preventing CD8 T cells from exiting melanoma tumors can significantly enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy. By blocking the CXCR4 pathway, they increased T cell retention within tumors, which, when combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors, arrested tumor growth in about half of the cases. This study highlights the importance of not only getting T cells into tumors but also ensuring they remain in the right place to drive effective immune responses.

Why installing active fire protection can improve a building’s sustainability

03 Jun 2021  |  Electrical Review
Governments are urged by the UN Environment Programme to integrate deep building renovation and performance standards into pandemic recovery packages. While sustainable construction practices focus on reducing energy demand and carbon emissions, fire resilience is often overlooked. Active fire protection, such as sprinklers, plays a crucial role in maintaining a building's sustainability by protecting reusable materials and reducing lifecycle costs. The construction industry is moving towards sustainable practices, but high-profile fire events in green-certified buildings highlight the need for improved fire safety regulations. Active fire protection systems, despite their carbon emissions, are essential for minimizing fire impact and supporting the long-term value and flexibility of buildings.
