Plans have been submitted to convert the disused New Carlton Social Club in Normanton into four self-contained flats. The proposal would retain parking, add garden areas and maintain access from Carlton Green; a steward’s flat would remain occupied. The club has reportedly been redundant for more than a year. Wakefield Council’s planning officers have not yet decided the application.

Plans for up to 250 homes on land off Asdale Road in Durkar have raised concerns from MP Jade Botterill about traffic and congestion near Pugneys Country Park. Taylor Wimpey intends to submit a full planning application later in the year, with proposals including affordable housing, public open spaces, and improved pedestrian and cycling routes. Wakefield Council will decide on the application following public consultation.
