Dorset Council has refused permission to convert the Grade II-listed Shave Cross Inn near Bridport into a four-bedroom family home, arguing that the applicant did not prove the pub could no longer operate viably or that it had been adequately marketed. Local residents, CAMRA and Upper Marshwood Parish Council opposed the loss of the historic community facility, while owner Joseph Baron’s planning agent said the business had operated at a loss despite renovations, repeated price reductions, auction attempts and an offer to a community group. The decision follows similar failed or withdrawn conversion proposals in 2014 and 2015.

Dorset Council has received several new planning applications across west Dorset. Proposals include listed-building work to the Dress shop at 70 and 70A South Street in Bridport, driveway alterations and a rear extension at other Bridport properties, an extension to a lambing shed at Ashfield Farm in Salwayash, decking in Charmouth, and re-roofing work at Church Farm House in Loders.

Several new planning applications have been submitted to Dorset Council for Burton Bradstock and the surrounding rural area near Bridport. Proposals include a replacement timber studio at Lower Townsend, alterations and extensions at properties on Shadrach, a widened access through a listed stone wall, and extensions at homes on Norburton and Barr Lane.

Dorset Council approved or considered a series of planning and listed-building applications across the Bridport area, including repairs to the fire-damaged listed Luccombe Farm in North Bowood. Other decisions covered home extensions, outbuildings, alterations to listed properties and a proposed new home in Salwayash.

Local authorities approved a series of planning applications across west Dorset, including property extensions in Bridport, Charmouth, and Lyme Regis. Newlands Holiday Park received approval for refurbishing and extending its toilet block, while other permissions covered home alterations, window replacements, and utility conversions. One proposal in Wootton Fitzpaine for a larger roof extension was refused, and listed building changes at Manor Farm in Seaborough were approved to support conversion into five dwellings.
