An ongoing police incident has closed Durnford Street in Plymouth’s Stonehouse area, with officers stopping vehicles and pedestrians near Barrack Place from travelling toward Royal William Yard and Devil’s Point. Residents reported an unconfirmed firearms incident at a nearby residential block, but Devon and Cornwall Police had not confirmed the nature of the incident.

A wildfire broke out on a grassy bank between Masefield Gardens and Chaucer Way in Plymouth’s Manadon area, prompting residents to move cars and fear for nearby homes. Three fire crews quickly contained the blaze before it reached a copse and houses. Resident Emma Hallas said the long, dry grass and dead vegetation increased the danger and that a firefighter suspected a discarded cigarette butt may have started the fire. Residents praised the response while urging Plymouth City Council to clear the vegetation, particularly amid wider wildfire warnings and a recent government emergency alert.
