Former Ministry of Defence Police officer and NHS nurse Maria Avarl denies stalking Police Scotland officer Susan Alexander. Alexander told Dumbarton Sheriff Court that Avarl approached her repeatedly, contacted members of her family, left a letter on her car and appeared near her home and workplace after claiming to have had a long-term affair with Alexander’s husband, Michael Stobie. Avarl admitted sending messages and writing the letter but said her encounters with Alexander were coincidental and that she was trying to warn her about Stobie, who denied having a sexual relationship with her. Both sides have closed their cases, with closing statements and the verdict still to come.
