Monmouthshire County Council rejected planning permission for recent works on a riverside patio at an Abergavenny Airbnb property, citing flood-risk concerns, inadequate landscaping and biodiversity plans, and the extension of the property’s curtilage over the riverbank. The owner, Geoff Burrows, argued the bank collapsed during Storm Claudia and said further repairs were needed, but officers and a flood-risk specialist warned the location was unsuitable for such structures. Residents of a new housing estate in Undy, Monmouthshire face confusion and delivery problems because a connecting road promised as part of the development remains unfinished. Local councillors raised the issue, noting risks for visitors and emergency services and citing planning documents indicating the road should have been completed before homes were occupied. Monmouthshire County Council acknowledged that only one section of the road on council-owned land is missing and plans to bring forward a recommendation to complete it.
