Police board eyeing 'bare bones' 2027 budget update
The Sarnia Police Board is considering a revised 2027 budget of just over $41 million, a 5.94% increase over 2026 and about $250,000 higher than its previous plan. The “bare bones” proposal reflects the postponement of a $91-million headquarters project and instead prioritizes repairs to the existing facility, three civilian hires, collective-agreement costs, and $400,000 in annual reserve contributions. Officer strength would remain at 132, while staffing would rise to 218 positions. The plan also includes bringing some human-resources work in-house and leasing satellite facilities for collision reporting, vehicle storage, and outreach services amid broader financial pressures facing Sarnia.

Sarnia Kids Funfest moving again
Sarnia Kids Funfest is returning to Centennial Park after previously being held at Clearwater Community Centre and Canatara Park. The free Saturday event, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature activities from about 30 organizations, live entertainment, emergency vehicles and heavy equipment, and free water-bottle refills. Organizers expect roughly 2,000 attendees and say the event will continue in August after a strong response to its 2024 schedule.
