Rotherham Council has approved £10,000 towards a feasibility study for a masterplan to restore a nine-mile section of the Chesterfield Canal between Staveley and Kiveton Park. Proposals include a marina at Kiveton Waters, new walking and cycling routes, quiet moorings, flood-defence improvements and restoration of the historic Norwood Flight of 13 locks. Repairs are also planned around Norwood Tunnel, with options including a new tunnel beneath the M1 or replacement locks. A visitor centre, café and boat lift have been suggested, subject to further funding and approvals, while the Chesterfield Canal Trust hopes to reopen sections by the canal's 250th anniversary in 2027.
