Tanni Grey-Thompson praised Olivia Breen’s leadership and positive influence as captain of Team Wales at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Breen won silver in the T38 100m and gold in the long jump, while Grey-Thompson highlighted the Games’ 47 medal-status para events and wider Welsh success. Grey-Thompson also credited National Lottery funding with enabling athletes to spend more time training and recovering, urging players to recognise their contribution to British sport.

Former Welsh 400m athlete Jamie Baulch has backed 19-year-old Charlotte Henrich to reach the highest levels after she finished fourth in the 400m Commonwealth Games final in Glasgow with a time of 51.16 seconds. Baulch praised her explosive ability, determination and character, while noting that she is still developing physically. Speaking at a Team Wales watch party supported by The National Lottery, he also credited lottery funding with transforming elite sport, pointing to the rise in Team GB's Olympic medal tally between Atlanta 1996 and London 2012. The event also celebrated medal successes by Welsh athletes including Emma Finucane and Anna Morris.
