Sitwell’s Restaurant: Burnham’s zero-hours reform would force me to close my pub
William Sitwell argues that Labour’s proposed zero-hours contract reforms would seriously damage pubs and restaurants by requiring guaranteed weekly hours, reasonable shift notice and payment for short-notice cancellations or changes. Drawing on his experience running the White Hart in Wiveliscombe, Somerset, he says flexible staffing is essential for adapting to unpredictable demand and maintaining viability. He contends that the reforms would increase business costs, reduce employment opportunities for young workers and could force him to close the pub. UKHospitality estimates that the measures could cost UK businesses almost £3 billion annually.

Lardon at Elkstone Studios review: Delicious small plates arrive chaotically fast
A review of Lardon at Elkstone Studios praises the quality of its ingredients and dishes, including jamón ibérico, pintxos, pizzetta and pork belly, but criticizes the chaotic pace of service and an overuse of cheese and sauces in multiple small plates. The restaurant’s setting is described as polished and fashionable, while its service style is seen as rushed and overwhelming despite the strong cooking.

Despite a few competent dishes, most offerings are uninspired or poorly executed, and the themed humor behind the menu falls flat. The critic finds the experience disappointing, deeming the restaurant not worth visiting.
