Yacob Herin

A magnitude 7.7 undersea earthquake struck near Flores in eastern Indonesia, killing at least 47 people and injuring at least 50. The quake collapsed or damaged hundreds of buildings, triggered landslides and small tsunamis, displaced about 2,000 people and disrupted communications and transport. A tsunami warning was later lifted after monitoring found no continuing major threat, while rescuers continued searching remote villages where the death toll was expected to rise.
