Yıldız Yazıcıoğlu is a journalist based in Ankara, Turkey. She was born in Germany in 1977. She studied Journalism at the Faculty of Communication of Ankara University between 1994-1998, and began working as journalist in 1997 in the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet in 1997 as intern. Yazıcıoğlu worked in the Turkish daily Milliyet between 2000 - May 2009 in different areas from Urban Affairs Correspondent to Presidential and Parliament Correspondent. Regularly contributed to the art and culture magazine Milliyet Sanat. Between 2009 - 2011, she worked in Washington DC for different media companies like TurkishNY, T24, and A Haber TV as Correspondent and Commentator. She completed vocational training in Voice of America, where she also worked as a reporter. Meanwhile she has been the Turkish journalist observing the Guantanamo Military Base after being improved, and covered the issue with the focus why US won’t be able to shut it down during the Presidency of Barack Obama. Following her return to Turkey in January 2012, Yazıcıoğlu began working in Habertürk TV as News Editor. Yet she resigned during the Gezi protests in 2013 owing to her professional principles. Since then she has been working in different media companies as Diplomacy and Parliament Correspondent. She worked at the news channel ArtıBir TV since December 2013 to its closed. She wrote at the weekly political magazine Nokta since May 2015 to she resigned by principles by November 2015. Currently, she works as freelance as Turkey Correspondent for Voice of America (VOA), and regularly contributes to KRT TV channel as programmer as, sometimes contributes Halk TV, Tele1, TV5 channels (which are national tv channels). From 2014, she also works part-time with the international news agency Reuters and the Swiss national TV channel SRF (Rundschau programme) as reporter, as well as with the Dubai centered TV channel Al Arabiya as news producer. Her photographs are used in several topics in Wikipedia pages.
