Children clung for life to Blackpool pier as tide rushed in
Two boys, 10-year-old Subby and 12-year-old Kizza, were stranded on Blackpool's South Pier on 28 May when a rapidly rising tide cut them off from shore. Their mother, Zully, and nephew Ted tried to reach them as the children clung to the pier for about 40 minutes, with Subby briefly disappearing beneath the water. Blackpool's RNLI lifeboat arrived within four minutes of being called and pulled both boys to safety. The family later returned to thank the volunteer rescuers, whom they credited with saving the children's lives.

Why are 150 pairs of blue shoes on display in Blackpool?
An exhibition in Blackpool displays 150 pairs of blue shoes to commemorate people believed to have taken their own lives following domestic abuse. The initiative, organised by Fylde Coast Women's Aid, highlights rising concerns about domestic abuse-related suicide and fuels a campaign for Kiena's Law, which would create a specific criminal offence and strengthen sentencing for coercive and controlling behaviour. Families of victims and advocates call for legal recognition of the link between prolonged abuse and suicide, urging government action to ensure accountability and better protection for victims.
