Md. Latifur Rahman Zakir, professionally known as Zakir Hossain, is an award-winning Bangladeshi journalist, producer, and press-freedom advocate with over 36 years of experience in political, investigative, and international reporting. Based in Dhaka, he is renowned for his fearless coverage of governance, human rights, conflict, and regional geopolitics, and is recognized as one of the earliest Bangladeshi journalists to pioneer serious genocide research and documentation. Zakir is known for credible sourcing and exclusive, high-impact stories across South Asia. His reporting has appeared in leading South Asian media outlets, including the Indian English dailies Eastern Chronicle and The Mizoram Post; the Bengali newspapers Jugasankha (published from Kolkata, Guwahati, Silchar, and Siliguri), Manush Patrika (Tripura), and Jagaran (Tripura); and the Assamese daily Dainik Gana Adhikar (Assam). He has also served as a foreign correspondent for The Indian Awaaz, with his work further distributed through HT Syndication, the Hindustan Times Media network that circulates South Asian journalism globally. His reporting centers underserved communities, covering the Rohingya refugee crisis, systemic labor exploitation in Bangladesh’s garment sector, enforced disappearances, and recurring dengue outbreaks–revealing how climate change, weak governance, and public-health failures intersect. He has reported from the heart of Bangladesh’s political upheavals, including the 2024 student-led uprising that toppled Sheikh Hasina’s long-standing regime and brought a Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus–led interim government to power. For his courageous reporting during this historic period, Zakir received the “Fearless Journalist” honour from the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust. Human-centered and uncompromising, Zakir Hossain exposes corruption, documents human rights abuses, and amplifies marginalized voices, making him one of South Asia’s most trusted journalistic voices.

In this report for Eastern Chronicle, India, published on Friday, March 28, 2025, I covered the high-level diplomatic meeting between Bangladesh’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus and China’s Executive Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang, where both sides pledged to deepen bilateral ties. I highlighted China’s commitment to fully support the Bangladesh Interim Government, expand trade and investment, and enhance cultural exchanges as the two nations marked 50 years of diplomatic relations. My coverage detailed Beijing’s pledges–including duty-free access for Bangladeshi goods until 2028, increased scholarships, support for Rohingya repatriation talks, and major development investments such as port modernization and energy projects. I also reported Yunus’ reaffirmation of the One-China policy and his call for stronger cooperation in RMG, EVs, electronics, and solar sectors.
