Kids think fruit and veg come from shops – and some believe broccoli are trees
A HelloFresh survey found that one in five UK children aged six to 11 believe fruit and vegetables come from shops, while many are unsure how common foods grow. Seventeen percent described broccoli as small trees, 30% did not know tomatoes grow on plants, and around four in ten were unaware that potatoes and carrots grow underground. Parents also reported difficulty explaining the origins of foods such as pasta, broccoli and yoghurt. HelloFresh and vegetable grower Gerald Stratford are launching The Curious Kitchen, a family experience at the Natural History Museum designed to teach children about growing, harvesting and preparing food.
