Kids think fruit and veg come from shops – and some believe broccoli are trees
A survey commissioned by HelloFresh found that one in five UK children aged six to 11 believe fruit and vegetables come from shops, while many are unsure how common foods grow. Seventeen percent described broccoli as small trees, 30% did not know tomatoes grow on plants, and around four in 10 were unaware that potatoes grow underground. A separate parent survey found that many adults also struggle to explain the origins of foods such as pasta, broccoli and yoghurt. HelloFresh and vegetable grower Gerald Stratford are launching The Curious Kitchen at London’s Natural History Museum to teach families about growing, harvesting and preparing ingredients.
