Sanne Derks is a documentary photographer, fixer and anthropologist based between Havana, Cuba and Arnhem, the Netherlands. Her work focuses on social issues in Latin America, with a main focus on water, housing and human ringts. Her work has been published by international media such as New York Times, National Geographic, The Guardian, Washington Post, CNN and Al Jazeera. Her long-term project Manifiesto del Agua, on how the right for clean drinking water is managed in socialist Cuba, was published in an award-winning photobook. Together with her Cuban partner she lives -partly- in Havana where she started to work with media as a fixer-duo. As a stringer in Cuba she worked a.o. with Volkskrant, SBS Australia, NZZ, NRC, Freedomnews New York, NOS, Nieuwsuur and VPRO. She can be hired as a fixer, photographer, researcher or reporter. Sanne holds a Master in Photojournalism (Universidad Autónoma Barcelona, 2016), a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology (Radboud University Nijmegen, 2009) and a Master in the Psychology of Culture and Religion (Radboud University Nijmegen, 2003). She speaks English, Spanish and Dutch fluently. She worked with Getty as a stringer, is a National Geographic Explorer and loves journalism.
